  • Director of Instructional Programs - Oil & Gas Industry

IHRDC is a leading provider of management training programs, e-Learning products and training services to the international Oil and Gas Industry.  The company is privately held, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts and has offices and representatives around the world. 

The Director of Instructional Programs will report to the Vice President of Instructional Programs in the Boston office and will interact on a regular basis with the President, Vice Presidents, and other instructors. 

The individual’s primary responsibly will be the development and teaching of management programs directed to the business and leadership fundamentals of the international oil and gas industry (see www.ihrdc.com  for detailed background on the scope of IHRDC offerings).  Additional responsibilities will include the development and updating of course content and support of international marketing of those programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Lead Instructor and, with other instructors, teach management level petroleum and energy business course content and facilitate learning simulation games for programs offered at the company headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts and international locations.
  • Maintain, update, and improve course content and contribute to the development of new course content and the design of learning simulation games.
  • Identify, recruit and mentor additional instructors, in both local and international locations.
  • Prepare and execute strategic plans to enhance sales by meeting with existing and potential new clients to identify and respond to new opportunities, support the preparation of proposals and assist with their closing.  
  • Support the efforts of IHRDC’s regional sales managers in their business development efforts by making presentations and supporting the writing of proposals to support the efforts.
  • Support the planning, marketing as well as serving as a mentor for the company’s new Virtual Mentor Learning initiative.  

Requirements for the Position:

The candidate will have a successful background in the international oil and gas industry.  The background and experience would ideally include a minimum of 10 years of service in the technical, operational and commercial side of the oil and gas industry, with some experience at the international management level. 

The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience teaching either at the academic level, in a formal training center or at least have substantial presentation experience.

Candidate should have received a technical undergraduate degree and a master’s degree, ideally an MBA.

Specific Requirements and Expectations:

  • Depth of knowledge and experience in various sectors of the international oil and gas industry and the desire to share that knowledge and experience in the teaching of courses to broad international groups of managers.
  • An inquisitive mind and the motivation to remain up-to-date in the knowledge, skills and understanding of the industry’s technical and business issues to update, improve and expand course content.
  • A high energy level, multi-tasking and achievement-oriented individual with the desire and enthusiasm to expand and grow an already successful instructional programs group. 
  • A personable style that will enable success in the hiring and coaching of new permanent and part-time instructors and achieving lasting, positive relationships with program participants and clients.
  • An outgoing personality with the ability to meet with clients to present IHRDC capabilities, identify opportunities, influence their decisions and follow up with appropriate marketing efforts.
  • The ability to provide support, as a technical teaching and program delivery expert, to a business development group that has established a strong reputation for its business management programs.
  • Educational background should include a technical undergraduate degree, coupled with a master’s degree ideally an MBA
  • The ability and willingness to travel internationally and have a sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or have the right to work in the U.S.
